Why we created Discovery Digital (our sister agency)

Why we created Discovery Digital (our sister agency)

Sometimes a business grows in a direction that becomes impossible to ignore.

That’s really what happened here.

For a good while, Purple Imp has been doing what it does best building a strong identity, doing good work, and growing into something with real momentum behind it. But over time, one thing became clearer and clearer: Purple Imp was naturally evolving into a sports brand.

Not by accident. Not by some grand dramatic pivot. Just by following the work, the energy, and the direction it was already heading in.

And when that happens, you’ve got two choices. You either keep trying to squeeze everything under one roof, even when it no longer quite fits, or you create something that gives each side the space to grow properly.

That’s where Discovery Digital came from.

A Better Fit for the Work We Do

We created Discovery Digital because it felt like the right home for the digital side of the work.

Simple as that.

Web design, digital support, branding, content, strategy all of that deserves its own identity. Not because it’s separate from our values, but because it gives those values a clearer shape. It allows us to speak more directly to the businesses we work with, and it makes it easier for people to understand exactly what we do and who we do it for.

Purple Imp has grown into a brand with a strong sporting direction. Discovery Digital gives us a dedicated space for working with businesses, organisations, and local brands who need a website and digital presence that actually works for them.

Not just something that looks tidy and ticks a few boxes.

Something useful. Thoughtful. Built with purpose.

Local Matters to Us

One of the biggest parts of Discovery Digital is the local side of it.

That matters. A lot.

We’re big believers that local businesses deserve proper supportnot copy-and-paste solutions, not jargon-heavy nonsense, and not being made to feel like they need a full marketing department just to get a decent website up and running.

A lot of smaller businesses are brilliant at what they do, but their digital presence doesn’t always reflect that. Sometimes they’ve been sold something flashy that doesn’t really help. Sometimes they’ve been left with a site they can’t update, can’t understand, or don’t even like. And sometimes they’ve just put it off altogether because the whole thing feels more complicated than it needs to be.

We wanted Discovery Digital to be the opposite of that.

Approachable. Honest. Straightforward. Built around real relationships and real conversations.

The kind of service where people feel comfortable asking questions, saying they don’t understand something, and trusting that they’ll get a proper answer rather than a sales pitch in a shiny jacket.

The Values Stayed the Same

Although the name is new, the values behind it are not.

Discovery Digital wasn’t created to become some polished, faceless agency that talks in circles and disappears behind trendy language. It was created to give the work a clearer direction while keeping the bits that matter most exactly the same.

We still care about doing right by people.

We still believe in being honest about what’s needed and what isn’t.

We still think good work comes from listening properly, keeping things clear, and building something that fits the person or business it’s for.

And we still believe that how you work matters just as much as what you produce.

That means being reliable. Being easy to deal with. Not overcomplicating things for the sake of sounding clever. And making sure the end result actually helps, rather than just looking impressive for five minutes.

That’s the heart of it.

Why Not Just Keep It All Under Purple Imp?

Fair question.

The honest answer is because growth brings clarity.

Purple Imp has built a strong identity, and that identity is now very much connected to sport. That’s a good thing. It shows direction. It shows momentum. It shows that the brand has found its lane.

But when a brand becomes known for one thing, trying to make it also represent everything else can start to muddy the waters.

Discovery Digital gives us a cleaner way to serve businesses that need digital support, while allowing Purple Imp to keep growing in the direction it’s clearly meant to go.

It’s not about abandoning one thing for another. It’s about giving each part the room to do its job properly.

And truthfully, that felt like the smartest way forward.

Or to put it less politely: it just made sense.

Built for Businesses That Want Things Done Properly

Discovery Digital is for businesses that want more than a website that merely exists.

It’s for people who want their online presence to reflect who they are, what they do, and why someone should choose them.

It’s for local businesses who care about their reputation.

It’s for organisations that want to work with someone who’ll be straight with them.

And it’s for the folk who are a bit fed up with being talked at by agencies who seem more interested in sounding impressive than being useful.

We’re not trying to be the biggest. We’re trying to be the right fit.

That means creating websites and digital work that feel personal, practical, and properly thought through. Work that supports growth without losing the human side of things.

Because for all the chat around digital, technology, and online strategy, it still comes down to people. People buying from people. People trusting people. People wanting to know there’s someone at the other end who actually gives a damn.

A New Name, With a Clear Purpose

So that’s why Discovery Digital exists.

Not because anything was broken.

Not because we fancied a dramatic reinvention.

But because Purple Imp has grown into a sports brand, and Discovery Digital felt like the right way to give the digital side its own clear identity while staying rooted in the same values that mattered from the start.

Local matters to us.

Honesty matters to us.

Doing good work for good people matters to us.

And Discovery Digital is our way of putting that front and centre.

No fluff. No grand mystery. Just the right next step.

We stay flexible

Not everything fits neatly into a brief. If something needs doing whether it’s design, content, photography, video, or technical support we focus on solving the problem, not creating friction.

We keep things clear and honest

No jargon, no unnecessary complexity, and no hiding behind reports. We explain what we’re doing, why we’re doing it, and how it’s performing in plain English.

A practical, partnership led approach to digital

We believe the best results come from working closely, communicating clearly, and staying focused on what actually helps your business move forward.

Built in Dundee. Built to Work.

A practical, partnership led approach built on trust, flexibility, and clarity.
